Choosing a 12V or 24V LiFePO4 Battery for Small Backup Systems in Iraq

Choosing a 12V or 24V LiFePO4 Battery for Small Backup Systems in Iraq

By Leo | Sales Manager at CSSUN

A useful battery recommendation starts with the equipment it must support. For distributors evaluating LiFePO4 as a lead-acid replacement, the first question is not simply “How many amp-hours?” It is “What does the complete system require?”

CSSUN supplies LiFePO4 batteries for lead-acid replacement and energy storage applications. The right model depends on the charger or inverter, the load and the installation. A battery that fits the available space still needs an electrical and application review.

Start with the existing equipment

Record the charger, inverter or UPS model and collect its battery specifications. Include the required voltage range and charging settings. For an existing UPS, do not assume that a battery chemistry change is supported. Obtain the equipment manufacturer’s confirmation for the proposed configuration before proceeding. [1]

Where charging equipment is retained, its charging behaviour must be checked against the selected battery’s instructions. A LiFePO4 charging profile is an important part of that review; a familiar connector does not establish compatibility. [2]

Describe the real load

List the equipment to be powered, its continuous demand, any startup peaks and the required backup duration. Include how long those peaks last. These details help distinguish an energy requirement from a current requirement.

Battery amp-hours alone do not answer both questions. Ask for a review of the proposed battery’s available energy, continuous and peak current limits, and the system’s losses and operating conditions. Any runtime estimate should state its assumptions; it should not be presented as a measured result.

Check space and operating conditions

Provide the available enclosure dimensions, terminal arrangement, cable connection requirements and installation location. For a hot equipment room or outdoor cabinet, record the expected temperature at the battery location rather than assuming the outdoor weather report describes the installation.

Ask how the selected battery and equipment behave after a protection event. The appropriate recovery procedure depends on the actual combination; it should come from the relevant product instructions, not from a generic online setting.

Make a distributor enquiry easy to answer

Send one enquiry containing the equipment model, battery requirements, load information, installation conditions, expected quantity and destination. Request the current model datasheet and applicable support documents. Confirm price, production lead time, branding options and warranty in the written offer for that version.

For a pilot order, agree on the review and acceptance criteria before expanding to a larger purchase. This gives the distributor and supplier a clear basis for comparing the proposed configuration with the customer’s needs.

Discuss your application with CSSUN: send your equipment model and backup requirements to sales@cssun.net. Leo can help organize the product and application review before a battery model is selected.

Six buyer FAQs

1. Does “lead-acid replacement” mean it will work in any UPS?

No. Check the specific UPS manufacturer’s support for the chemistry and configuration, together with its electrical and charging requirements. The product category is not a universal compatibility approval. [1]

2. Should I choose a 12V-class or 24V-class battery?

Start with the equipment’s specified battery voltage range and system design. Do not choose the class solely from the required runtime or an existing battery’s case size. CSSUN should confirm the proposed model against the application information.

3. Can I use the old charger?

Only after its charging behaviour has been checked against the selected battery’s instructions. Ask for confirmation based on the exact charger and battery combination, rather than assuming that a charger used for lead-acid is suitable. [2]

4. Can I calculate backup time from the Ah label?

Not from Ah alone. The estimate needs voltage, permitted usable energy, the actual load and system losses. State the operating assumptions and distinguish an estimate from a measured runtime.

5. Can I add batteries in series or parallel later?

Request the permitted configuration for the exact model and version before planning expansion. Do not apply a series-wide label or another model’s instructions to every battery. For later expansion, also confirm the manufacturer’s requirements for matching batteries and combining existing and new units.

6. Which documents should a distributor request?

Request the current datasheet, installation instructions, applicable model-specific test and transport documents, and written commercial and warranty terms. The availability and applicability of each document must be confirmed for the selected product and shipment.
