The 2026 World Energy Storage & Clean Energy Expo ran from September 16 to 18 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, occupying Areas A and B of the Pazhou venue. Published event reports put the edition at roughly 180,000\u202fm\u00b2 of exhibition space with 2,838 exhibitors, covering more than 60% of the energy storage and clean energy industry chain. Organizers reported 110,000 professional visitor admissions and more than 16,800 international buyer visits on the opening day alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is the enlarged format of the World Solar PV & Energy Storage Industry Expo (PV Guangzhou), now in its 18th edition and described by its organizers as a full-chain platform rather than a solar-only trade fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was on the floor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition footprint was organized as a chain rather than a product catalogue. The solar PV zone ran from polysilicon and cells through modules and inverters into storage systems and hydrogen applications. The battery and storage zone presented the closed loop from cell to system, and from manufacturing to recycling. Adjacent zones covered hydrogen (positioned around deep decarbonization), wind power around integrated wind-solar-storage, plus cleanliness, refrigeration, and electric heating and boiler equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the floor, the programme included the 2026 Global Energy Storage Forum, the 2026 PV & Storage Industry High-Quality Development Conference, the 2026 Guangzhou Battery Industry Technology Exchange, the Global Cleanliness Conference and an awards ceremony. Co-located with the main expo, the World Battery & Energy Storage Industry Expo (WBE 2026) ran in Area A on September 16\u201317, and the World Charging Technology & Facilities Expo was also listed on the same dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organizer is Guangdong Hongwei International Expo Group, working with domestic bodies including the Guangdong Solar Energy Association and the Guangdong Battery Industry Association, and with international partners including Thailand\u2019s Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three signals for battery buyers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. Storage has moved from accessory to headliner.<\/strong> The battery and storage zone was structured as a complete industrial loop \u2014 cells, systems, manufacturing equipment and recycling \u2014 and storage exhibitors formed one of the largest blocks of the show. For buyers, the practical effect is that storage procurement conversations now start with system architecture and lifespan, not with a panel wattage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The buying side is international and institutional.<\/strong> The organizer\u2019s buyer programme was built around targeted invitations to energy associations, large power groups, EPC contractors and core purchasers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas and Africa, supported by global buyer matchmaking sessions, PV-and-storage supply-demand talks and buyer factory-tour programmes. In other words, the show was engineered for contract-stage conversations, not brochure collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. In the near term, policy and logistics set the price, not cell chemistry.<\/strong> As we flagged in our August policy update<\/a>, China\u2019s 6% export tax rebate for lithium batteries is set to be fully cancelled from January 1, 2027. With a 45\u201350 day full export cycle covering production, shipping and customs clearance, the industry is expected to start price adjustments as early as November 2026, and pre-emptive bulk stocking is already tightening cell supply. Dangerous-goods warehouse space and shipping slots are also expected to come under pressure at the end of the year. Any buyer planning 2027 volumes should be reading this alongside what they saw at the Guangzhou show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
